Brazilian Waxing.

Where you go for your Brazilian wax
can make all the difference.

What is a Brazillian Wax.

The Brazilian wax is an extreme bikini waxing treatment that removes hair from the entire pubic region. To some people it means removing everything but a strip at the front. How closely you trim, shave or wax the area is personal preference. You should do whatever makes you comfortable, whether it’s a bare look, or a more natural look, or something in between. Once you cross over you will never go back!!

Does Waxing hurt?

The most common thing I hear from first time waxers is "That didn't hurt anywhere near as much as I expected!" I would be lying to say that there is not some discomfort associated with waxing, after all you are pulling the hair out, but it is definitely manageable and nowhere near as bad as most people think. The discomfort is a short, sharp sting much like taking off a Band-Aid, and subsides within seconds of the wax being removed.  I know all the little tips and tricks to make it as easy and pain-free as possible. Exactly how much it hurts depends entirely on your individual sensitivity, how coarse your hair is & how often you wax. With repeated wax sessions the discomfort definitely reduces. This is because firstly you know what to expect and get used to the sensation and secondly because papilla or root of the hair weakens resulting in fewer and finer hairs which come out more easily. If you are at all concerned take two ibuprofen (such as Nurofen) an hour before your waxing appointment as it takes a bit of the sting out of waxing it seems to relax the hair follicle resulting in a more efficient wax. There are also numbing agents that take the edge off waxing....just ask me about it.

How long does the procedure take?

Usually takes from 15-35 minutes, depending on the hair growth, how often you've been coming and the clients comfort level during the waxing. First timers generally take a bit longer.

Do I need to do anything before my waxing appointment?

Yes. Please be clean before coming to your wax appointment or if you have come from work, the gym or have been out all day there are wipes provided, you need to use them. Exfoliate and moisturise the day before & wear no moisturises on the area to be waxed the day of unless you have dry skin.

 What do I wear?

My clients wear a comfortable old g-string kept for their brazilian. You will be provided with a disposable g-string if you forget yours, they are not attractive! and a towel for draping. Provided for you is also a personal wipe, please use it, especially if coming from work or the gym.

How is a Kitty Kat Brazilian done?

The area to be waxed is exposed, and disinfect the area. A hard wax is applied with wooden disposable spatulas. You may be asked to help stabilize an area with your hand. Small patches of hair are removed, with extreme care holding the skin taut. I can remove the hair that spreads through the bottom area, this is also optional. Afterwards I apply a soothing aftercare lotion or oils, which helps to soothe the area and remove any remaining bits of wax so you dont walk out sticky! Ithen give thorough aftercare advice. If you have any concerns please let me know as I am there to help you & make your visit as comfortable as possible.

What type of wax is used?

The wax I use for this procedure is a combination of hot & strip wax, This allows for a faster working time. Only hot wax is used on the very sensitive areas! My wax contains titanium dioxide which reduces skin trauma and redness. The wax is specifically designed for sensitive areas, making it perfect for Brazilian waxing.

 How long will I be hair-free & when do I re-book?

This varies from person to person but generally speaking you will be completely hair free for 10 to 14 days. At this time the new hairs begin to appear, however they are usually so soft and fine they are barely noticeable for another week to two weeks. It will take between 6 to 8 weeks for the hair to fully regrow. Due to cycles of hair growth (there are three - the growing, transitional and resting phases) one may experience re-growth sooner. This is not the waxed hair growing back: it is the emergence of hair which was not present (or too short) at the time of waxing. For this reason I recommend waxing every 3-4 weeks not a day over for the first year. We want all 3 stages to come into one..this ensures you get the smoothest wax possible for the longest amount of time. With regular waxing, the time between visits will increase, as the hair growth slows dramatically over time.

When is the best time to have a Brazilian wax?

The best time to be waxed is about a week after your menstrual cycle. You should also try to avoid caffeine, nicotine, lack of sleep and stress, as these factors can make you feel over sensitive to the treatment.

What kinds of people are coming in to have Brazilian Waxing?

Everyone! People just like you & me! Beauty options should not be classed as a luxury item. Everyone wants to feel beautiful, regardless of whom they are. Everyone should experience a Serenity Brazilian wax.

Why have your Brazilian done with Kitty Kat?

I believe that I have very high standards of hygiene, professionalism and consistency. I understand that this treatment is very personal and intimate of nature, and I respect the individual needs of my clients. I use only premium grade European hot waxes, disposable wooden spatulas, disposable gloves and I cleanse the area prior to waxing.

Will I get pimples or a rash after waxing?

How people's skin reacts to waxing varies dramatically from one person to the next. Some people show almost no skin reaction at all, and other people react more noticeably. The skin reaction can also be different on different parts of the body. For this reason, I strongly recommend never having your first wax appointment before a special event or function. Once you know what your individual reaction is, you can then best time your waxing appointments before any such special event (for most people this is 2 to 3 days).

The 3 most common reactions that people tend to get after waxing are:

  • The reaction post-waxing that occurs almost immediately and lasts up to 24 to 36 hours. This can be as mild as a reddening of the skin (called erythema), but more often shows up as red spots or raised bumps (think of a just-plucked chicken). The red spots are blood spots which occur because the papilla (hair root) has some blood supply and with the hair removed, the blood gathers at the follicle. This absorbs back in into the dermis within a few hours. These reactions are normal on most people (in fact the red spots are a good sign that the hair has been pulled out by the root) and subside within the first 3 to 24 hours. Less common is larger itchy welts or Hives on the skin similar to mosquito bites that appear almost immediately after waxing. These occur to a histamine reaction and usually subside within a few hours and can be avoided for future wax treatments by taking an anti-histamine such as Telfast before having the waxing performed.

  • After you wax, you need to protect the skin by putting a fine layer of Lish Nourish Softening balm every two hours. This will help stop inflammation & limit any ingrown hairs, which occur due to trauma to the skin. When we wax we take a very fine layer or skin, so we need to create a fake barrier. This will mean less after wax products & less exfoliation. With the delivery of intense hydration the skin feels soft and smooth without any stickiness. Keeping the skin well hydrated after exfoliation minimises the build-up of dead skin cells which helps to prevent ingrown hairs.

Designed with a blend of healing plant extracts, Lish Nourish has a dual action of providing both a protective barrier and also replenishing the skins vital moisture levels. This amazing product helps to minimise ingrown hairs and assists in improving other dry skin problems. Lish Nourish can be used on cuticles, cracked heels and also as skin chafing or nappy rash prevention.
For best results massage into areas prone to ingrown hairs or on areas of dry skin daily.

  • The second reaction people may get is break out or pimples that occur on the second or third day after waxing. This is usually caused by bacteria entering the pores of the skin which remain open for about 8 to 10 hours after waxing. The most common culprit is sweat which is why it is important to avoid exercise, saunas or steam rooms for 24 hours after your wax. I highly recommend daily washing of your skin with a pH balanced wash.  Lish Fresh is a gentle, all over body wash that is odour neutralising and leaves the skin feeling fresh, hydrated, and clean. Lish Fresh has a low pH and is sulphate and detergent free, so it cleanses without leaving the skin feeling dry or irritated. Lish Fresh has a low irritant fragrance and is suitable for sensitive skins, men, women, and children of all ages.

For best results, apply a small amount of Lish Fresh to damp skin, lather with additional water and rinse thoroughly and dry. Apply Lish Hydrate or Nourish.

  • For 24 hours after your wax, pretend you are sunburned.  So avoid hot showers, hot baths, saunas, warm pools, float tanks.

  • The third reaction some people get 2 - 3 weeks after waxing is ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs occur when the hair grows under the top layers of the skin surface either in a straight line or curled up resembling a blackhead. The best way to avoid ingrown hairs is to exfoliate the skin after 1 week, exfoliate using Lish Smooth! Smells divine and is an effective body exfoliant that combines Organic Coconut Sugar and Eco Beads with the Enzymatic properties of Tropical Fruits Harvest to gently exfoliate the skin, lock in the skins moisture and promote a healthy skin cell turnover. A weekly exfoliating routine helps to prevent the build-up of dead skin cells that cause ingrown hairs and an uneven and dull skin appearance. Lish Smooth also helps to exfoliate and prepare the skin prior to a spray tan.

For best results, use twice a week. Apply to damp skin and massage in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly with water. Follow with Lish Nourish Softening balm.

  • If the problem is severe a product that contains AHA or salicylic acid like B Smooth bump errasor Serum can help as a spot treatment. But if you follow the afterwax protocol above this should be a rare occasion.

Regular waxing also reduces the skin reaction because the body becomes more accustomed to the process.
